The Golden Horses

One day a herd of golden horses from Rainbow Land were grazing at the foot of a giant mountain when the stallion disappeared. Then all of the mares and foals became uneasy until the lead mare reared up, then all the beautiful horses became quiet again. They all looked toward the east and saw a gray stallion with a cream colored mane and tail coming over the ridge of the mountain. All of the mares turned and galloped off as fast as they could go, but the stallion caught up with them and turned all of the mares back to the valley.

That night, one of the fillies tiptoed out of the valley remembering what the Rainbow fairy had said, "Never mix your breed with any other horses on earth, because you are a very valuable herd of horses." The filly knew that her name must not be known to any other than the Golden Stallion. She took off her halter with the name of Goldy on it and laid it aside carefully under a bush and galloped toward the place she had last seen the Golden Stallion.

The hoof prints faced off to the west, but Goldy was too smart for that. She turned toward the east and saw what she was looking for. The beautiful rainbow that always followed the Golden Stallion where ever he went.

Goldy followed the rainbow to a camp where she saw the Golden Stallion tied to a tree, and then she saw some men going toward the Golden Stallion with a blindfold. Once the men got the blindfold on him they started to pull him into a chute that opened up into a small coral. Goldy knew she had to stop those men from puting the Golden Stallion into the coral, and if she was caught she knew he would not leave with out her. So Goldy neighed her most frightful and energetic neigh and reared up until she reached her full height, and then she charged the men with all the speed she had.

The men were so scared that they took off running and forgot to tie up the stallion. While the men were running to the camp the, Golden Stallion scraped off the blindfold against the tree. He turned to see a courageous pretty little filly galloping toward him. He immediately recognized the filly to be Goldy, the feisty, yet beautiful filly from his herd on the mountain top.

Goldy came down and galloped to him and exclaimed," What happened? Are you hurt?" "I'll tell what happened when we get back to the herd, and no I'm not hurt. Now let's get back to the herd before that Gray Stallion mixes our breed. We must gallop all the way!" said the Golden Stallion.

When Goldy and the Golden Stallion reached the herd it was dark, so they decided to wait until dawn to take back what was rightfully theirs. The dawn came and the Golden Stallion ran off the Gray Stallion, and all of the mares were so happy to have him back, that they started to buck and play again.

Now all the Golden Horses are safe from any danger, but over the years their color has faded and the Golden Horses were named palominos, and they are still around today. Although the brightest palomino would be dull in comparison to a Golden Horse, they retain the beauty of the horses which lived long ago. The Golden Horses.
